The Flavor of Words

Words are powerful! Thoughts are too…because eventually, they become words.

However, once words escape our lips they reach points of no return. No matter how sweet or bitter they may be, once they are spoken, they are out there and the damage is done. (In positive settings, I’d like to think that the love is spread.) So, I must move on to the point of this post!

Y’all! I have a new “creativity crush”. Allow me a moment to first explain what a creativity crush is.

creativity crush
cre·a·tiv·i·ty – krē-(ˌ)ā-ˈti-və-tē, ˌkrē-ə-/ noun
crush – krəSH/verb
a person that exhibits creative excellence as a result of their work (regardless of medium); one whose work is difficult to imitate due to it’s level of creativity

For this reason, I present to you, my creativity crush, Mr. Victor Ross II.

Victor Ross II

During a phone conversation, my niece and I talked about the movie “Love Jones” and it’s epic scene featuring the poem, “Brother to the Night“. You know, the one where he says “Who am I? It’s not important. But me, they call me brother to the night. And right now… I’m the blues in your left thigh… trying to become the funk in your right.” Uh-huh, that one. (I love that poem!)

Following a trip down poetry memory lane, I set out to find new pieces of poetry that I hadn’t yet discovered. Lucky for me, what seemed like a hundred Google searches landed upon a piece entitled, “Once Just Dreams” by Victor Ross II.  It seemed so familiar. Perhaps, I had read it before…but I wasn’t sure. Either way, I am so happy that I (re)discovered it! I will admit that I had no concept of the vast range of Mr. Ross’s talents. I didn’t even know what he looked like. But, oh! What a pleasant surprise! 🙂 He’s the total package: a father, poet, artist, and a model. Pure awesomeness! If you have never read or listened to his poems, please check him out!!! I really hope that he posts more videos soon.

Once Just Dreams

it looks like a dream neither far nor distant
just in that mist close by
like grandmas blanket or the aroma of your first home
never seems tangible
but who needs touch
when you are in my dreams
you were a dream once and if i push hard enough
and you knock loud enough
the door will open
I will be waiting
2 cups of coffee
and we will talk of our journey
and reminisce about how we were once
just dreams

Victor Ross II

And, now I leave you with this gem, Kisses for Breakfast. *giggles*

God bless!
K. Jones ♥
