Steady Yourself, Heart.

“Steady yourself, heart. Talk to me, God.”
-Taraji P. Henson

Today, like many other days, I searched for early morning motivation; something to keep me uplifted. Whether its a prayer, devotional, inspiring quote or video, each morning I search for something to positively boost my day. Today, I read the verse of the day courtesy of the Word Alert app. It’s the first thing that I tend to do in the morning. Today’s verse was, “It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” 1 Corinthians 13:5

First thought: Okay, God. I hear you. In total transparency, I am still working on the whole ‘no record of wrongs’ part. Nonetheless, it struck a different cord with me than most verses I’ve read. So, I noted that. (Oh! If you are not familiar with the verse, it is talking about love.)

As I arrived at the office, I had a random thought. “Honey, when you think someone can stoop no lower they go and grab a shovel.” Just like that, this random idea popped in my head. It could’ve served as a major distraction to my day. However, although the thought is true, I forged ahead and sought out positivity. In visiting, I was reminded of what I needed to hear most. “You can control you.”

Imagine, if we all focused on the things that we could control. Seriously, imagine it. I know my life would be a lot less stressful. Even as I type this post, my mind is bouncing all over the place with reminders and to-do lists and lunch options and the list goes on. However, one thing I know for sure is that I can control me. I can realign and refocus my energies to complete this post because it is important to me.

So, I regroup and move ahead.

Whatever is happening in your life, focus on what you can control. I don’t write that under the assumption that you are in despair. Focus is necessary in the midst of celebration too! There are amazing things happening each and every day! Even with those awesome moments, we must focus on what we can control. If we don’t, we will be all over the place trying to solve problems or prevent problems, when they don’t even exist.

Clearly, my mind is a think pot of possibility this morning. So, I’ll refocus and leave you with today’s message from

You can control you
You cannot control the weather. You can control you.

You cannot control other people. You can control you.
You cannot control the market, the government, the culture, the seemingly random fate. What you can control is what you think, how you see and feel about life, and what you do.
You can control you, and that is more than enough for great fulfillment. You control you, and with that control you can forge a positive result out of any situation.
In what you have gained, in what you have lost, there lives the same opportunity. Through purposeful self-direction and control, you can make it into something great.
You control the beautiful, unique, creative bundle of possibilities that is you. Every day, every situation is your chance to transform that control, that power, into meaningful value.
-Ralph Marston

So, dear friends, keep pushing! Keep moving! Keep being you!

God bless!
